Why is it that we can only mourn our own children?

gabriele vom bruck3Dr Gabriele vom Bruck, Senior Lecturer in the Social Anthropology of the Middle East at the School of Oriental and African Studies wrote on January 5th:

“In his speech at Newtown School in Connecticut following the shooting of 20 children, Barack Obama said that they “had been in the wrong place at the wrong time”.

“So were the 21 children who died in the US drone attack on Majala, Yemen, in 2009 (and this is not an exceptional case).

“There has been neither an acknowledgment by the US nor an apology.

“Why is it that we can only mourn our own children? If the gun culture is to be reviewed, surely US drone policy should likewise come under scrutiny.”
