Vanessa Redgrave as Boadicea looked at her sleeping soldiers and – reflecting that some would be killed in the next battle – said, “The death of the few is worth [it for] the pride of the many.” 

Do these words, written by Fay Weldon, interpret the attitude of today’s Western war-wagers?
