Create a demilitarised Palestine and Israel, based on the post-war Japanese constitutional model

As Randhir Singh Bains writes in the Financial Times, [Letters Sept 7] the creation of a demilitarised Palestinian state, based on the post-war Japan constitutional model, would stand a chance of delivering peace in the region – but only if Israel also incorporated the Japanese ‘peace article’ into its constitution.

From Article 9 of the Japanese Constitution:

Aspiring sincerely to an international peace based on justice and order, the Japanese people forever renounce war as a sovereign right of the nation and the threat or use of force as a means of settling international disputes.
